CHARACTER HOME SECOND STOREY ADDITION AND HOME EXTENSION WITH OPEN PLAN LIVING

"WE HAVE BUILT BEFORE WITH LARGER COMPANIES AND HAVE FELT LIKE JUST ANOTHER NUMBER. AT AMEREX THE EXPERIENCE WAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. WE COULD PICK UP THE PHONE AT ANY TIME AND NOTHING WAS EVER A PROBLEM". - BRENTON AND JACQUI

SETTING UP THE FAMILY FOR THE FUTURE

CHILDREN’S BEDROOMS UPSTAIRS, OPEN PLAN LIVING AT REAR WITH POOL AND GAMES ROOM

The Home Owners – Jacqui and Brenton – wanted to create a family home that would provide comfortable and stylish living for themselves – a professional couple – and their 2 teenage children for the next 10 to 15 years. With this in mind, they purchased a Californian bungalow character home with the specific intention of renovating and extending it to perfectly suit the needs of their growing family.

They have owned several homes and have built with other building companies before. They were experienced with the process and were keen to proceed with a Builder that they could trust to deliver quality and that would listen to their needs.

They approached Amerex and another larger Building Company at the same time. In the initial stages, they were very careful and compared the offerings of both Builders before deciding that Amerex was the best fit for them. Amerex worked together with Jacqui and Brenton to design their vision for what turned out to be a large and comprehensive project.

Californian Bungalow in a Heritage Protected Street

Their home renovation included a second storey addition to their character home, a spacious extension on the ground floor at the rear, and renovation and remodeling to the front part of the home. At the rear of the property, Amerex also built a Pool Room and a new double Garage. The Californian bungalow house was in a heritage-protected area and as such the design factored this in to ensure that the front facade of the home did not change, and the character and charm of the streetscape were retained.

Second Storey Addition floor-plan

The second storey addition upstairs included two large children’s bedrooms. One was designed with a study nook and the other has a gorgeous bay window looking over the backyard. The second storey was built solely as a kids zone, and an activity area that can be used for watching TV or gaming, a separate bathroom, and a separate WC.

Home Extension with Open Plan Living

Downstairs the extension at the rear of the home features new spacious open plan living that is flooded with natural light from the east which is particularly stunning in the mornings. This includes a family lounge area, dining, and a kitchen which is complete with a Scullery, walk-in Pantry and a spacious Laundry cleverly concealed over to the side. This state of the art Kitchen features clean long lines, caesarstone benchtops with waterfall ends, a window splashback that brings the greenery of nature into the home, and louvres on the side of the splashback that have been cleverly designed to allow the breeze to flow in and provide natural air conditioning for the open plan living area.

Transforming and renovating existing parts of the home

The Master bedroom at the front of the house was an existing room, and Amerex added a luxury ensuite (it looks like it has stepped out of the pages of a Vogue magazine or a high-end hotel brochure) and a stunning custom fit Walk-in robe. The new jarrah staircase to the second storey now stands in the location of the previous kitchen!

Creating Innovative Outdoor Living spaces

Out the back, the new Alfresco area has a built-in outdoor kitchen and features a seamless flow from the indoors to the outdoors. This has been achieved with the design and installation of stackable doors that allow the area to be completely opened up. This is complemented by the construction of a large load-bearing beam that has facilitated a unique column-less corner at the corner point of where the stackable doors when they are closed. When they are open it allows for this area to be opened up with no barriers at all. Where the corners converge there would normally be a post or column, but with clever construction and great design this has been built without any obstruction in place. At the rear boundary of the property, Amerex have built a separate Pool/Games Room and a Double Garage at the rear.

Keeping Character Home features and working heritage elements into the new areas

The new parts of the home have mirrored the Heritage features of the existing home. To achieve this, Amerex carpenters have created stencils to custom-make door architraves to perfectly match the existing architraves at the front of the home. Heritage skirting and cornices have been included in the new areas, along with gleaming polished jarrah floorboards and a jarrah staircase, balustrade and handrail to complete the tie-in with the character elements of the Californian Bungalow home.
