The extension included a new Living Area, new Kitchen, re-build of the Alfresco area, and a new Bathroom, Laundry and Powder Room.

FIRST STEP: DEMOLISHING AN OLD EXTENSION AND STARTING AGAIN

The existing home had some lovely charm and character at the front, however had a very dated addition at the rear, presumably added in the 1980s which was not done well. In fact it had made the home a rabbit warren of disjointed rooms that were dark and uninviting, and with a low skillion roof, it had to go. The old extension was demolished and removed and we started again!

ADDING SPACE WITH ONE EYE ON THE BUDGET

Our clients are a young growing family that wanted to better utilise their space, but also had to work within a budget to achieve the right balance between adding space and building in modern amenities, so keeping track of costs to keep the project within budget was important. To help with this, Amerex took the existing Alfresco down, built the home extension at the rear, then repositioned the Alfresco to the new location, extended it some more, and laid new decking to freshen it up.

BLENDING THE OLD WITH THE NEW

Throughout the renovation and addition, heritage features were used to blend the old part of the house with the new addition. For example, beautifully classic jarrah floorboards were laid, sanded, and polished. High ceilings were retained throughout, heritage cornice and high skirting were used throughout ensuring that the new extension was a seamless blend of the old to the new.

BRINGING LOUVRES BACK INTO FASHION

As an interesting feature, traditional style Louvres were also used in the Dining Room. These can be opened to invite in a welcoming breeze, and also contribute natural light to the open plan living areas.

MATCHING AND REPLICATING HERITAGE FEATURES

In addition, Amerex also went the extra mile to create several new heritage crown and arches in the hallway to match the existing one at the home entry. The result is fantastic, and the new crowns and arches match the old perfectly. Determining where the new starts and the old finishes are virtually impossible in this home!

The end result of this renovation project is a beautifully restored home that has been transformed from a dark poky, and disjointed home, to a home with liveable open space that is flooded with natural light.
