SETTING THIS MT HAWTHORN FAMILY UP WITH SPACE TO GROW

The owners of this character Mount Hawthorn home decided that with a growing young family it was time to add a Second Story Addition. They wanted to extend and add space so that they could remain in the family home for many years to come. Amerex designed and built a second floor addition which included a master bedroom with an ensuite, a bedroom/study, a walk in robe, and a powder room.

RENOVATING THE EXISTING ROOMS DOWNSTAIRS

The downstairs part of the home was also renovated and extended with a new laundry and powder room and a new access passage to the kitchen/dining/living from the entry.

TO JOIN THE OLD AND THE NEW

To join the old and the new parts of the home, a new grand staircase was constructed with classic jarrah treads and handrail, and painted stringer risers and balustrade. The staircase is simply stunning but that is not the only feature of this home to be excited about. The new ensuite and powder rooms feature dramatic and striking feature tiling, which really add a touch of something special to these areas.

BLENDING THE OLD AND THE NEW

As a classic character home, the owners were keen to modernise certain aspects, but were also keep to remain faithful to the heritage of the home. As such, Amerex designed and custom built many items such as creating a feature crown and arch to the dining and passage, constructing a hood to the top floor window, and matching gables to existing to keep the heritage streetscape in-tact. Polished jarrah floorboards were used throughout, and heritage cornice, high ceilings and colonial skirting was used to match the ground floor with the second floor addition.

PROTECTING AND PRESERVING

Amerex were also careful to preserve and protect the existing parts of the home that remained untouched, including the beautiful garden which survived the construction phase completely unharmed.
