Sustainable Renovations
Whether you’re planning a second storey addition, a major renovation, or a home extension, we focus on quality and sustainable construction to help reduce your running costs, improve liveability and add long-term value to your property.
By combining sustainable building materials, smart design and premium construction methods, we create homes that are more comfortable, efficient and ready for the future.

Sustainable Construction Methods and Premium Materials included in every build
Sustainability in a home renovation is achieved by building smart, long-term performance solutions into your home. Amerex demonstrates our commitment to a sustainable future and forward-thinking, by including these premium construction features as a standard inclusion (most builders either charge these as extras or leave them out altogether).
Internal AND External Wall Insulation
All timber-framed walls, both internal AND external, are fitted with R2.5 high-density insulation as standard. This keeps your home cooler in summer, warmer in winter and noticeably quieter. This is particularly important for second storey additions.
With budget builders, only the external walls are insulated, which means noise and temperature easily travel between rooms. By insulating every wall, we improve thermal comfort and reduce noise transfer, creating a more peaceful and enjoyable home environment.
Professional Insulation Installation
We don’t take shortcuts when it comes to insulation. In the industry, it’s common for plasterboard trades to lay insulation quickly, which can leave gaps. At Amerex, we engage specialist insulation installers who carefully cut and fit each section so there are no gaps. This ensures your insulation performs at its best, delivering maximum comfort and energy efficiency throughout your home.
Anticon Blanket Under Roof Sheeting
We include a 50mm thick Anticon blanket—basically a built-in foil barrier—under your roof sheeting as standard. Importantly, this stops moisture from building up in your roof space. This means less chance of condensation and mould, and a more comfortable, quieter, healthier home.
Lightweight Concrete Flooring System for Second Storeys
Our second storey floors are built using a 75mm lightweight concrete system. This lightweight yet solid material feels secure underfoot and offers outstanding noise reduction and thermal performance—so your upstairs is just as comfortable as the rooms below.
While some builders use chipboard to cut costs, we choose lightweight concrete for its strength, comfort and long-term benefits.
Superior Cladding System for Rendered Exteriors
For second storey additions with a rendered finish, we use a 75mm EPS cladding system—much thicker and more energy efficient than the commonly used 7.5mm blueboard used by others. EPS cladding offers improved insulation and durability, delivering a quality solution that is built for longevity.
Thermal Breaks for Energy Efficiency
We install cavity battens behind the external cladding to create a small gap, known as a thermal break. This acts like a barrier to stop heat from easily passing through the walls. The result? Your home stays cooler in summer, warmer in winter, and more energy-efficient all year round.
Certified Waterproofing Specialists
All wet areas—bathrooms, kitchens, laundries, and balconies—are waterproofed by licensed specialists, not tilers (as is commonplace in the industry). This ensures NCC compliance, a warranty and provides a certificate of compliance for peace of mind.
LED Lighting & RCD Safety Upgrades
We brighten your home with energy-efficient LED lighting and upgrade your electrical system to meet modern safety standards. This includes installing Residual Current Devices (RCDs)—which instantly cut power if something goes wrong, reducing the risk of fire or electric shock.
Low-Flow Water Fixtures and Energy-Efficient Appliances
Low-flow showerheads, faucets and toilets save water without sacrificing performance. Our key suppliers will help recommend fixtures and energy-efficient appliances with high star ratings. Over time these will help to reduce your household energy use and costs. Timers can be installed to the hot water system to maximise energy use and reduce costs.

Green Add-Ons – Optional Upgrades
Are you interested in taking your home’s sustainability even further? The optional upgrades can maximise your efficiency, comfort and long-term savings.
Solar Panels and Battery-Ready Installations
Cut energy bills and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. All solar installs are battery-ready so you can easily add storage in the future.
Home Battery Storage Systems
Store excess solar power for use at night or during peak demand periods—boosting your energy independence.
Transitioning from Gas to Electric
With gas becoming more expensive and less sustainable, Amerex helps future-proof your home by switching to modern electric alternatives:
- Safe removal of gas points and bayonets.
- Induction cooktops and ovens.
- Efficient electric hot water systems (solar-ready) with a timer to optimise energy use.
- Reverse-cycle air conditioning for year-round comfort.
Energy-Efficient Windows
We provide a free consultation to help you get the most from your new windows. We will take into consideration breeze paths in design and advise if skylights can or should be included to maximise natural light.
By considering your home’s orientation, natural light, airflow and views, we can also recommend smart upgrades such as:
- Low-E Glass: Reduces heat transfer while keeping natural light.
- Double Glazing: Improves insulation, reducing heating and cooling costs.
- Hush Glass: Minimises outside noise for a quieter home.
Smart Timers for Energy Efficiency
These devices learn your patterns and optimise heating and cooling automatically, saving energy without you needing to think about it.
EV Charging Stations
We can install home EV chargers or pre-wire for future use. This boosts your home’s star rating and aligns with upcoming NCC requirements.
7-Star Air Conditioning Systems
Modern systems with zoning let you heat or cool only the rooms you need, maximising comfort and efficiency. We can decommission old air-conditioners and arrange complete installation packages.
